Samuda Chemical Complex Limited (SCCL) is a private limited company owned by Mr. Mohammad Abul Kalam, Ms. Farzana Afroze, Mr. Mohammad Mustafa Haider, Ms. Rizwana Afroze, and Mrs. Khaleda Begum. SCCL was incorporated in 2006 in Bangladesh under the Companies Act, 1994. It is the largest caustic soda and hydrogen peroxide plant at present in Bangladesh.

MOHAMMAD ABUL KALAM:

Chief Advisor

Mohammad. Abul Kalam, Managing Director of TK Group of Industries, started his career in commodity trading in 1972. He gradually started his own edible oil refinery plant TK Oil Refinery in Kalurghat, Chittagong in 1981. This was only the beginning in the creation of one of the most diversified and successful business conglomerates in Bangladesh. He is considered to be one of the most valued clients to most of the financial institutions, both local and international. Under his dynamic leadership TK Group of Industries not only continued to excel in the new millennium but also has achieved a unique image for itself as being one of the most stable, profitable and ethical  conglomerate in Bangladesh. Currently there are 49  industries under the umbrella of TK Group of Industries most of which are currently in smooth operation and its products and services range from edible oil, cement, steel, leather, paper, garments, knitting, veneer & particle boards etc. TK Group is one of the top five players in the edible oil and vegetable fat, paper, steel, and commodity trading sectors. 


FARZANA AFROZE:

Ms. Farzana Afroze, the eldest daughter of Mohammad  Abul Kalam, completed her Bachelors in Science in Business Studies with an emphasis on Entrepreneurial Studies from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business, USA in May 2004.

During her stay in the USA, she had the opportunity to be an Intern at UBS Financial Services, one of the world’s leading financial institutions, where she was the key person to design the Retirement Benefit and Training Manual. She was a nominated member of the Marshall Women’s Leadership Board (MWLB) and was selected as a Marshall Student Ambassador. Her other educational achievements include :Special Merit Scholarship, Dean’s List Student in 2002 and 2003, USA Dean’s List Student in 2003, and membership of National Society of Collegiate Scholars, USA.

After her graduation, she worked for a high-end fashion company, Mellies Inc., Beverly Hills, California as Special Projects Manager where she was responsible for bringing strategic changes within the organization and build a more structured and decentralized operation system. She decided to return to Bangladesh in July 2005.

From 2005 Ms. Afroze started overseeing the garments business which is due to her leadership & hard efforts currently doubling-up its capacity and a button manufacturing factory has started to roll.

MOHAMMAD MUSTAFA HAIDER:

Managing Director

Mr. Mohammad Mustafa Haider, the eldest son of Mohammad Abul Kalam, completed his Bachelors in Science in Business Studies with an emphasis in Finance from the University of Southern California, Marshall School of Business, USA in May 2005.

After completion of his graduation that year, Mr. Haider came back to Bangladesh and joined Premier Cement. He was overseeing the sales of Premier Cement and under his supervision the sales of Premier Cement doubled within the next 6 months!

Mr. Haider is also involved in the Sales and Marketing of TK consumer products under the brand name of Pusti & Family.

Mr. Tariq Ahmed, COO:


Mr. Tariq Ahmed has worked with TK Group from November 1999 as the Director of Operations and Marketing. His job at TK required him to oversee day-to-day operations of one of the largest business conglomerates in Bangladesh which comprises over 49 business units. He has prolonged experience in product sourcing, value chain management, organizational development and business strategy development.

Mr. Tariq received his Masters Degree from Dhaka University in 1977 and joined Unilever in 1980 as Management Trainee where he worked in International Trading and Marketing as Manager Exports till 1986. In 1986, he joined the marketing team as Head of Foods Marketing where he worked till 1997. From 1997 to 1999, he was the HR Manager. He had international exposure while working in UK with Unilever Foods from 1983 to 1984.


Mr. Nasim Anwar, CFO:


Mr. Nasim Anwar, FCA did his Bachelor of Commerce in the year 1987 and qualified as Chartered Accountant in 1993. He started his career with Padma Oil Company Ltd., the largest oil marketing company in Bangladesh. He was the Finance Manager and Company Secretary of Padma Oil Company Ltd. He worked as Financial Consultant of Agip Gas BV, the largest gas exploration company in Europe, from July 2001 to August 2002. Total investment portfolio of this company was around US$7 billion. He served TK Group of Industries as Finance Director from September 2002 to December 2005.
